summer solstice sewing

When I heard on the radio this morning that today will be the longest day of the year, I decided today would be a good day to finish up a tote bag I've been working on this week. My mom gave me some tshirts a few weeks ago, including a shirt she wanted me to make into a tote bag. While working on her bag, I was also trying very hard to get the hang of sewing with knit fabric, which can be very tricky (it tends to have a mind of its own). I've found that if I take my time and don't do any sewing once primetime television starts, I make very few visible "happy accidents" (much love to Bob Ross).

I'm still perfecting my technique, but I'm happy with how this bag turned out. I even included a pocket made from one of the sleeves. The pocket has two slots for pens, and a larger pocket for a cell phone or business cards.

My next tote bag, which I plan to start today or tomorrow, will be for my Etsy site. I plan to make one inspired by quilting patchwork with the great yellows, pinks, and oranges I got at the Salvation Army sale last month. My next mini-project will be a passport cover (another item I plan to sell on Etsy, but need to try my hand at first).

nice bag candice, i love tote bags especially for work on around this time of the year when you go to the park or something. I'm sure the t-shirt fabric has to be easier to clean. :-)
